Offered for sale is a charming Victorian Staffordshire flatback spill vase often referred to as "Couple at the well" or "Farmer and Wife".
Spill vases were designed to hold "spills" (tapers of paper or wood) used for lighting fires, candles or lamps. It is a depiction of a couple in period rural clothing standing either side of a well/spring/waterfall.
