Offered for sale is a lovely copy of Princess Mary's Gift Book, a first edition, published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1914 to raise funds during World War 1 for the Queen's "Work For Women" Fund. This is a collection of amusing stories and poems for the children of the household, as well as serious tales for the adults. The stories are written by J.M. Barrie, A. Conan Doyle, H. Rider Haggard and Rudyard Kipling amongst others. The book is illustrated throughout with fourteen, wonderful, coloured plates by Dulac, Detmold, Rackham, Flint etc and black and white drawings. A popular Christmas present over 100 years ago. There is an inscription to the inside cover sheet. "To dear May from Mother & Daddy Xmas 1914"
