Offered for sale is a lovely pair of African ebony figural candlesticks. They are likely Makonde in origin as they clearly reflect the popular African Makonde wood carving ‘Tree of Life’ or Ujamaa. These depict human figures of all ages climbing and holding onto each other showing the nature of support across generations. These carvings are made from one single piece of wood and can be up to two metres high.
This pair are in superb condition. A wonderful example and a very interesting decorative antique collectable. A solid ebony turned base leads up to two slender carved figures holding onto each other whilst supporting what appear to be traditional African pots in which a candle may be placed.
