Offered for sale is a large Royal Doulton "Monty" character jug. Designed by Harry Fenton, it was first issued in 1946 . It is a depiction of Bernard Law Montgomery (1887 – 1976). He was the first Viscount Montgomery of Alamein and was referred to familiarly as "Monty". The highlight of his long and distinguished military career include the first Allied victory of World War Ii in North Africa in 1942 and the acceptance of the German surrender at Luneburg Heath in 1945. He was Deputy Supreme Commander of The Allied Powers in Europe from 1951 – 1958. An early Royal Doulton 1st version character jug .The letter 'A' to the left of the crown on the backstamp was a mark added to pieces between c1939-1955.
