Royal Doulton "The Bookworm" D5905 Rack Plate

Offered for sale is a plate entitled "The Bookworm" by Royal Doulton as part of their series named "The Professionals" which consisted of nine different characters and was produced from 1909 through to the early 1970s. This particular plate is from the first firing of the series and registered as version D5905 the D5XXX numbers refer to the second firing of this series. The plate bears the backstamp of the lion standing along with "Made in England". This firing was produced between 1938 and 1948. This particular plate in the Series was discontinued in 1947. The D5059 has a more vibrant yellow circle surrounding the portrait of the bookworm decorated with a background of bookshelves. The rim is decorated with images of books and has a warmer background colour than the earlier D3089.
