Offered for sale is a stunning Czech glass optical mould blown vase with a coloured olives design called 'Nemo'. Made by the Borske Sklo glassworks in the 1960's, and designed by Max Kannegiesser.
In 1963 Max Kannegeisser had won an annual competition held in Czechoslovakia, for the best glass design of the year.
The prize was that the design would go into production. This is the design and it was named 'Nemo'.
The items were made in four part moulds which created raised circular or ovoid shapes on the surface. The shape of the bowl or vase dictated the shape of the raised areas. Randomly some were painted. This design was a runaway success and in its first year over 40,000 decorative and functional pieces were made and exported. An effort was made to repeat this success, with other combinations of relief and colour, but to no avail!
Excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or signs of restoration.
