Offered for sale is a charming, colourful, hand painted, Arthur Wood kingfisher jug, relief moulded with stylised flowers and kingfishers in vibrant shades of orange and green on a cheerful yellow ground. Previously trading as Arthur Wood, in 1924 his son Gerald Wood joined the business and in 1928 it was renamed to Arthur Wood & Son (Longport) Ltd. During the 1930s & 40s the company acquired other pottery manufacturers. Including Collingwood Bros, they subsequently traded from 1948 as Collingwood China Ltd. In 1955 the Arthur Wood Group listed as a public company and contained, Arthur Wood & Son (Longport) Ltd, Price Bros. (Burslem) Ltd. Kensington Pottery Ltd and Davenport Pottery Co. Ltd. (a distributor). Carlton Ware was acquired 1967 after it had gone into liquidation but it was sold in 1987 to County Potteries. The backstamp on this item would date it to early 1950's.

It is in overall excellent condition. The jug has light age related crazing throughout which only adds to it's charm. There are a couple of little paint chips which aren't obvious (please see photo's)
