Offered for sale is a Poole pottery vase in the Aegean style. The vase is presented in a brown ground with a typically bold, abstract Aegean wax resist design around the full body of the piece in hues of yellow, orange and green spray glazes. Aegean was introduced by Poole in 1970 as a replacement for the Delphis range of designs that had carried the company through the 1960's. Aegean often draws on Mediterranean and central American style influences for its designs which may be abstract like this one or more figurative - often seascapes with sailing boats. The Aegean design is experiencing something of a revival as its merits are being reassessed by collectors and those seeking a 1970's design look.
