Offered for sale is this blue & white cup and saucer made by Adams Potteries for Jonroth who were prolific importers of Stoke-on-Trent pottery into the USA, specialising in blue and pink historical or souvenir designs on the traditional blue (and pink) Staffordshire prints.
In 1884 John H Roth entered the ceramic trade as a clerk for C. E. Wheelock in South Bend, Indiana, U.S.A. The business name of John H. Roth & Co. came to be when he sold his equity at Wheelocks in 1909.
The saucer commemorates the town of Plymouth Massachusetts and states on the back that it was imported for the Plymouth Rock Gift Shop in Plymouth Massachusetts and depicts the 'Mayflower' and monuments to the pilgrims. The cup was imported for the Wayside Country Store in South Sudbury Massachusetts and depicts the 'Wayside Country Store'and the 'Congfellows Wayside Inn' in South Sudbury.
