Item Details
Offered for sale is a lovely set of 19th Century, silver plate fish servers by Martin Hall & Co of Sheffield.
Martin Hall & Co was one of the best known British manufacturers and participated to many international exhibitions including the Crystal Palace 1851 Great Exhibition. They had also a line of production in electroplate and in a patented white metal called "Martinoid".
The blade and fork are richly engraved with scrolls, foliage and flowers ,the handles are embossed with scrolls each bearing empty cartouche. I believe it to be a pattern entitled "Venetian" but can't say for certain. The presence of the "crown" on the hallmark indicates manufacture being prior to 1895.
The knife length is 300mm the fork 230mm.
