Offered for sale is a gorgeous Chinese Famille Rose Mandarin dish. Famille rose, (French: “rose family”) group of Chinese porcelain wares are characterised by decoration painted in opaque overglaze rose colours, chiefly shades of pink and carmine. These colours were known to the Chinese as yangcai (“foreign colours”) because they were first introduced from Europe (about 1685). The Rose Mandarin type typically depict figural scenes to the centre either in a garden or interior setting, bordered with a floral theme.
